Photo Week #32
This past weekend, I attended my first dol party! We celebrated Oliver’s first birthday with a “Where the Wild Things Are” themed party.
Justine and I spent a lot of time putting together the decor but I think it turned out well. She spent even more time making that cake with the crown on top (three layer vanilla cake with mango curd) and it was so yummy! I’ve realized I don’t like mango that much, unless it’s super fresh and from a tropical island preferably served over a huge mound of shaved ice.
We got to play with the Cricut, which reminded me of Paper Source day cutting out giant Nutcracker dolls to make the window display. I think that was the only window display that I got to make before I left Paper Source, but I remember being pretty proud of it.
I also made buttermilk biscuits this past week in order to use up some leftover buttermilk.
My first set of biscuits came out really flat, because I think I added too much buttermilk and used (really) old baking soda. Again, I wish that cookbooks had more photos of in-between steps so that I can see how wet or not wet the dough is supposed to be! Cooking from a video seems to be the best way for me to learn. My second set was better, and I froze the rest of the batch. Hopefully now I will remember to actually eat them from the freezer…
